What do you do when the one you least expect to matter… Ends up mattering the most? Derek Pearson likes to think he’s an easygoing guy. Uncomplicated, upfront, and unapologetic with what he wants. His what you see is what you get attitude is on prominent display for anyone who cares to look, and his foul mouth is right there to back it up should you miss the point. However, what you see isn’t always what you get, and only a select few have ever glimpsed the real man under the brash exterior. Among them? Professor Jordan Devaney. Complicated, high-maintenance, and vibrant, he’s Derek’s opposite in every way. From the moment they saw each other, a love-hate relationship began. But what happens when one person wants more?
Devil Kiss Sunset Cove Series Volume 2 Ella Frank 9781533325983 Books
This novel potentially had a very good start, but morphed into what I'd classify as a daytime serial: shallow, melodramatic, over-the-top, and focused on 'the beautiful and bold.' In the latter part of the novel, the characters solved all of their problems & pent up feelings by having sex.Granted all fiction is make believe and personally I don't hold a novel to the test 'how realistic is it.' However, as an academician, I could not reconcile the actions and 'professorship' of 1 MC. When the story is about 2 people falling in love, I would expect that the story to delve into the emotions of the MCs and the progression of their relationship rather than focus on what's in the MCs pants and how they use what's in their pants.
I found it difficult to remain focused throughout this novel because of the the recurring sexual acrobatics in the latter part of this novel. I would be reluctant to buy a novel by this author again.

Devil Kiss Sunset Cove Series Volume 2 Ella Frank 9781533325983 Books Reviews
One thing is for certain when it's Ella Frank jerking your chain The characters are going to be completely messed up emotionally to the point where most of their relationship decisions backfire until one of the bullets ricochets in a way that you'd never expect.
Picking up from "Finley," which was essentially a spin-off of the immensely popular and stunning "Temptation" series, this one follows a decade in the lives of Derek Pearson (on the cover) and Jordan Devaney, who start off as 19-year-old college freshman and 23-year-old boy genius college professor respectively and then spend the next decade tearing each other's hearts out and minds apart.
We met these two in "Finley," and you knew they were going to get their own book, but you have no idea what kind of a ride you are setting yourself up for. Fearfully hot physically and trying to recover from a lifetime of abuse emotionally, Derek grabs Jordan's attention as soon as he walks into his the professor's debut class, and from there the sparks fly--but for so long without meeting combustible material.
Incredibly smart, a world-famous prodigy and breathtakingly handsome, Jordan has a history which has been splashed across the tabloids, but his openly gay lifestyle obviously does not meet with any resistance by his very rich and tolerant family. Derek, however, has a few opinions about that, as does Jordan about the mysterious hulk he cannot seem to get out of his mind.
Weaving in the missing pieces from the relationship that led Daniel Finley (Finn) and Brantley Hayes to meet, fall in love, break apart and reunite from "Finley," this book is a fast-moving saga of two men who simply cannot admit their feelings for each other because at the root they are both terrified of commitment. Look what happened with Finn and Brantley, both of them note, during the time when those two came crashing down. That these two crash and burn several times over the course of a decade can be frustrating at times, but then you start a new chapter and can't put it down again.
I read this in one day--never intended to, because I was also deep in a couple of other books that were less conflicted and sweeter. But this one kept me going, and if my instincts are right, there's at least one more coming which might involve a character who began to take shape late in the book, But, no matter. For now, get this one, but read "Finley" first--both are worthy successors to "Temptation."
In book one we were introduced to both Jordan and Derek. It was obvious there was something there and instantly I wanted to know their story.
We learn in Devil’s Kiss what a difficult life Derek has endured. It brought tears to my eyes on several occasions. Derek’s determination to be better than the other men in his family was what made Derek who he is. Strong, confident, and loving. An added bonus is that he is also gorgeous, muscled and tattooed.
When I first met Jordan I wasn’t sure what to think of him. When we get to know the man he truly is you can’t help but love him as well. Not only is he kinda spunky, he has a huge heart. There is so much more to him that just his good looks and brains.
As their story unfolds you see not only a friendship develop but deeper feelings for each other. It was frustrating that it took so long for them to actually come together in a sexual aspect. But when they did wow, Ella Frank knows how to write sex scenes that make you sweat. The chemistry they have is stifling. However, it is the friendship, and the deep connection that makes them perfect for the other.
As for the secondary characters, I loved seeing Finn and Brantley again. I adore those too. We also get to briefly meet Jordan’s mother and she is a hoot. I can definitely see where Jordan gets his wittiness from. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about Derek’s family. They are horrific and made me sick. I was hoping my feelings would change over time but that wasn’t the case. I was glad that Derek was able to overcome the nastiness they display. Out of all these secondary characters it was Dylan who intrigues me the most. He has a story and I hope we get to read it soon.
For those who you have read Ella Frank’s work you already know she is a phenomenal writer and her books are an automatic one click. However, for those who haven’t read her books, what are you waiting for each and everyone are fantastic. If you decided to start with this series, Devil’s Kiss could be read as a standalone but I recommend starting with Finley, book one to fully understand that characters and background.
I can’t wait to read more from Ella Frank in the future as I know it will be just as amazing as her others.
